He eventually entered the NFL, coaching teams like the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings, before becoming head coach of the New York Jets in 1994. Carroll's tenure included a stint with the San Francisco 49ers as defensive coordinator and later with the New England Patriots. Despite challenges in the NFL, he found great success at USC, leading the Trojans to two national championships and establishing himself as a top recruiter in college football.
