Gavin James Creel was an American actor, singer, and songwriter known for his work in musical theater. He made his Broadway debut in 2002, playing the lead role of Jimmy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, which earned him a Tony Award nomination. In 2009, he starred as Claude in the Broadway revival of Hair, another performance that got him a Tony nomination.
From 2012 to 2015, he played Elder Price in The Book of Mormon. He won a Laurence Olivier Award for playing the role in London's West End and also performed it in the U.S. National Tour and on Broadway. In 2017, he won a Tony Award for his role as Cornelius Hackl in Broadway's Hello, Dolly!

Creel passed away on Monday at his home in Manhattan.
The New York Times mentioned that Creel was well-liked in the New York theater community, and his death came as a surprise due to his age. Just last winter, he performed in Walk on Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice, a show he wrote about his experiences at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, at MCC Theater off-Broadway.

Gavin Creed passed away on Monday at the age of 48 due to a rare and aggressive cancer. His publicist, Matt Polk, said he died at his home in Manhattan from metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a disease he was diagnosed with in July 2024.
Bette Midler expressed her grief on X, saying,“I looked forward to working with him every single night. He was fantastic. I can’t believe he’s gone. What a loss,” Midler wrote on X. Idina Menzel shared a photo of Creelm on Instagram, writing, “Sweet sweet Gavin Creel. An angel among the angels.”
