Why is Nicole Scherzinger Leaving The Masked Singer?
Nicole Scherzinger left The Masked Singer because she is starring in a London stage production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. The show opened in September 2023, and Nicole had to focus on her role in the musical. Her performance was so good that she won Best Actress in a Musical at the 2024 Laurence Olivier Awards.
After finishing the London run, the show is moving to Broadway in September 2024, where Nicole will continue her role. These commitments kept her from being a judge on The Masked Singer for seasons 11 and 12.
In August 2024, Nicole was announced as a judge and mentor on a new Netflix show called Building the Band, alongside Liam Payne and Kelly Rowland. The show aims to discover the next big musical group, but the artists won't meet face-to-face at first. The host of the show is A.J. McLean.
Who Replaced Nicole Scherzinger on The Masked Singer?
Rita Ora replaced Nicole Scherzinger on The Masked Singer for seasons 11 and 12. In September 2023, she expressed her excitement, saying, “So happy the secret is finally out. I’m joining the maskedsingerfox US!” Rita had previously been a panelist on the UK version of the show for four seasons.
Her return for season 12 was confirmed in June 2024, but Fox mentioned that future casting decisions after season 12 were still open, which means Nicole could potentially return. Before her break, Nicole expressed her love for the show and her desire to continue as a panelist.
The Masked Singer
The Masked Singer (TMS) is an American singing competition that started on Fox on January 2, 2019. It comes from a South Korean show called King of Mask Singer. In this show, celebrities sing while wearing costumes and masks to hide their identities. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the panelists—Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke—guess who the celebrities are based on clues.
