Boone McCrary, a 32-year-old man from Greeneville, Tennessee, went missing on September 27, 2024, after his boat capsized in the Nolichucky River during severe flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. He was with his girlfriend and their Labrador Retriever when their boat was swept into a bridge and overturned, throwing them into the water.
While his girlfriend was safely rescued, Boone and the dog were carried downstream. A search team later found Boone's body in a creek near W. Allen's Bridge Road on October 1, 2024. Sadly, the dog did not survive either.
Boone's family described him as a kind person who loved helping others, and they expressed their deep grief over his loss. The incident is still being investigated by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
