Leslie Abramson About the Menendez Brothers
Leslie Abramson became well-known for her role as the lawyer for Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were accused of killing their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. Edie Falco played Leslie in the 2017 mini-series Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. The defense argued that the brothers acted in self-defense after suffering years of abuse from their parents.
During the 1996 retrial, Leslie described Erik and Lyle as troubled young men who were pushed to their breaking point. She stated, "These are not murderers. These are troubled kids in a very difficult and grotesque home environment, and they cracked." She emphasized that their situation was unique compared to other murder cases she had handled.
Leslie believed that the life sentences given to the brothers were too harsh. She said, "It's a grotesquely disproportionate verdict and punishment for what happened here." She argued that when children kill their parents, it indicates serious problems within the family, which is different from cases involving violent criminals who harm strangers.
Who is Leslie Abramson?
Leslie Hope Abramson is an American lawyer known for defending Lyle and Erik Menéndez. She is also a published author. She was, born on October 6, 1943.
Leslie was born in Flushing, Queens, New York. She graduated from Queens College and earned her law degree (J.D.) from UCLA School of Law in 1969.
Leslie Abramson Marriage
Leslie Abramson has been married twice. Her first marriage was to a pharmacist, which ended in divorce in 1969. She later married Tim Rutten, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times. Leslie has two children: a daughter named Laine from her first marriage and an adopted son from her second. In September 2022, she confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that Rutten had passed away, even though they were divorced at the time.
