Who Left Chicago Fire This Season?
In the Season 12 finale of Chicago Fire, Eamonn Walker, who played Battalion Chief Wallace Boden since the show began in 2012, said goodbye to the series. He won't be a regular cast member in the next season.
As the show enters its 13th season, there are big changes. After Chief Boden's departure, Dermot Mulroney's character, Chief Dom Pascal, takes over. However, his leadership style quickly causes tension with the Firehouse 51 team.
Why is Chief Boden Leaving Chicago Fire?
In the Season 12 finale of Chicago Fire, Chief Boden left his position at Firehouse 51 to become the Deputy Commissioner for the Chicago Fire Department. Although he was hesitant at first, he decided to take the job to help protect the department, especially after learning that Paramedic Chief Robinson wanted to replace older firefighters with new recruits.
Last season was Eamonn Walker's final time as a regular cast member. The show's producer, Andrea Newman, explained that Boden's departure was a natural next step for his character's story.
Chief Boden Replacement in Chicago Fire
NBC announced that Dermot Mulroney will be the new character replacing Chief Boden in the upcoming season of Chicago Fire. He will play Dom Pascal, a veteran firefighter from Chicago who has spent the last ten years as a fire chief in Miami. Now, he is returning to Chicago to take the job. Pascal has a strained relationship with his wife, Monica, which will be part of his story this season.
Show producer Andrea Newman mentioned that Pascal's arrival will change a lot this season. She explained that the backstory of how he ended up in this role will be revealed in the season premiere. Pascal is a very different kind of leader compared to Boden, who was seen as a father figure by the time he left.

It is part of the Chicago franchise, which focuses on various public services in Chicago, Illinois. The series follows the lives of firefighters, rescue workers, and paramedics at a fictional fire station called Firehouse 51.
The show first aired on NBC on October 10, 2012, and as of May 22, 2024, it has aired 252 episodes. In April 2023, it was renewed for a twelfth season, which started on January 17, 2024. In March 2024, the show was renewed for a thirteenth season, which premiered on September 25, 2024.
