Will Batman be in the Penguin? Gotham's Hero Went Missing

Will Batman be in the Penguin?
In The Penguin, Batman does not appear, even though the series takes place right after The Batman (2022). Colin Farrell, who plays the Penguin, explained that the story focuses on a different side of Gotham City, one that Batman usually doesn’t patrol. Instead of downtown areas where he fights crime, The Penguin shows the city’s underbelly and the struggles of characters in less visible neighborhoods.
Batman is currently dealing with major issues after the events of the first movie, including the flooding of Gotham caused by the Riddler. His priority seems to be helping the city recover rather than focusing on smaller criminals like the Penguin.
Additionally, promotional material for the show hints that Batman has gone missing. It suggests he might be learning that he can help Gotham more as Bruce Wayne than as Batman. This aligns with a storyline from the comics where Batman is absent while focusing on being Bruce Wayne to save the city in a different way. So, while Batman is not in The Penguin, there are reasons for his absence that tie into the overall story of Gotham.
The Penguin
The Penguin is an American crime drama miniseries created by Lauren LeFranc. It is based on the character Penguin from DC Comics and is a spin-off of the movie The Batman (2022). The show focuses on the Penguin's rise to power in Gotham City's crime scene.
Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner, and the series is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Development started in September 2021, with Colin Farrell set to return as the Penguin. The director of The Batman, Matt Reeves, helped with the writing and selecting the creative team.
Craig Zobel was brought on to direct the first three episodes, along with Helen Shaver. Filming began in March 2023 in New York but was paused in June due to labor disputes in Hollywood. Production restarted in late November and wrapped up in February 2024.
The Penguin Plot
The Penguin is set one week after the events of The Batman (2022). The story follows Oswald "Oz" Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, as he rises to power in Gotham City's criminal underworld. After mob boss Carmine Falcone is murdered, there is chaos in the city, especially in Crown Point, the poorest area, which is struggling to recover from severe flooding caused by the Riddler.
Oswald, who is an underboss for the Falcones, sees this chaos as a chance to gain power. He tries to take advantage of the rivalry between the Falcones and another crime family, the Maronis, led by Salvatore Maroni and his wife, Nadia. Encouraged by his mother, Francis, Oswald makes bold moves to become the new kingpin of Gotham's crime scene.
